There’s something extra special about photographing an engagement session when you’ve known one half of the couple for a long time. This Winterthur engagement photos session was one of those full-circle moments that reminded me why I love what I do.
Thoughtful Planning
When I first asked Z, the bride-to-be, if she had any locations in mind for their engagement photos, she sent over two ideas: an art museum or a garden. Along with that, she shared a few inspiration photos that gave me a clear sense of the vibe she was drawn to. Romantic, timeless, with a touch of whimsy. The original location she suggested ended up not allowing photography, but as soon as I saw her inspo, I knew exactly where to pivot. Winterthur Museum & Gardens felt like the perfect fit, and thankfully, it was.
In the days leading up to their session, Z and I talked through outfits and details, keeping in mind that these photos would be used for their save the dates. We wanted everything to feel elevated but still true to them. Thoughtful planning like that always makes such a difference, and it really showed in the final photos.
The Real Heroes
I would truly be remiss if I didn’t talk about the unsung heroes of this session: the Winterthur staff. I truly can’t say enough good things about them. They were so incredibly kind and helpful. When I showed them a few spots I had seen on Instagram, they told us exactly where to go on the grounds and helped everything run smoothly. It made the experience feel relaxed and welcoming from the start.
Having known Z for years, capturing her so in love was incredibly sweet. It felt surreal in the best way. These two made my job easy. They showed up fully themselves, took my prompts and poses in stride, and were completely present with each other. The kind of love that doesn’t need much direction.
After I delivered their gallery, Z sent me the sweetest text about how I captured her love story. Oh that made my whole day!! Those messages never get old. I’m so happy to have brought Z’s vision to life with Winterthur engagement photos that are romantic, intentional, and full of heart. To be part of this chapter for them was an honor.
